Studio Maesani carried out a conservative restoration of the historic chimney located at the VIBRAM S.p.A. industrial site in Albizzate (VA).
Specifically, the intervention involved a deep cleaning of the surfaces to remove widespread and persistent saltpeter crystals. The process included a biocide treatment and the removal of deeply rooted vegetation, followed by the elimination of black crusts and a general structural consolidation.
The masonry work featured the deep repointing of mortar joints, using textures and aggregates selected to match the original materials. The project was completed with the reconstruction and repositioning of damaged or missing bricks.
