Knowledge of iconography is a fundamental requirement in the approach to the conservation of devotional paintings. In sacred icons, the specific use of colors, the arrangement of figures, and the symbolic attributes are as important as the understanding of the constitutive materials. The operational phases of restoration involve targeted interventions for the conservation of the wooden support, the ground layer (gesso), and the paint film, which is often enriched with gilding and varnishes. Studio Enso intervenes with appropriate methodologies that include preliminary material analysis, structural stabilization, controlled cleaning, consolidation of the paint film, and, where necessary, the reintegration of lacunae (gaps), always respecting the criteria of compatibility and reversibility.
